I took the opportunity while Daddy was gone recently to have a slumber party with my girls. We started off the evening with a spa night. We washed faces and did mud masks.
Then we painted our nails while enjoying some special treats.
Once we were all clean and pretty we settled into my bed to watch Shirley Temple in "Heidi" It was a fun evening and a nice way to end a week without Daddy, we sure were glad to have him home!
This blog is about our large family of nine children, as we home school, play, manage daily life, and live the military life, all while trying to give glory to God! It is also to help friends and family far away keep in touch and watch our children grow!

Working together
These two girls are such faithful workers and try so hard to bless their family. It can be hard when you are 2 or 4 to find jobs you can do, but these two manage. I love how well they (usually) work together.
After playing with play dough they realized they had made quite a mess of their play dishes. Could they wash them?
Mr. S usually folds our towels/rags. These two saw the basket full that needed folding and did nearly all of it for big brother. What a blessing they are! It looks like they are just about ready to take on the responsibility for this job.

He loved me first
The other day we were doing a video chat with daddy while he was out of town. After saying our "I love yous" and "good-byes" we hung up.
Then I heard Miss C say "I love him"
You love daddy?
"uh huh, 'cause he loved me first"
"he loved me first"
"we love him because he first loved us"
On and on she went like that. It was so sweet and cute. What blessed our hearts the most is that not only is she hiding God's word in her heart, but she is finding His word relevant in her life. God has blessed her with a small picture of His love for her by providing for her a Daddy that reflects God's love for her.

A little book worm
Mr. K seems to be developing a great love of books, just like the rest of the family. He can often be found in the corner by the book shelf reading, or in this little chair with a book.
He is quite pleased with himself now that he has figured out what to do with these books and how to get them off of the shelves, just like all of the big kids!

Meet Harry
Harry is a new guy that has been showing up around here lately. He bears a striking resemblance to Mr. M and likes to hang out with us when Mr. M is not around. We find Harry to be a very interesting fellow and quite entertaining.

September cupcakes
The cupcakes for this month were more along the lines of pleasing to the adult taste buds. Unfortunately Rob was out of town and I had a sick little one, so these cupcakes never made it to the church potluck.
My kids didn't seem to mind too much though. They got to eat a few of these and despite the lack of candy and sugar in general on the top of these the kids were happy enough with them.
Mr. K has had issues with dairy from birth, and continues to. Since he is still nursing that means the two of us are dairy free. I've been exploring the world of dairy free baking/cooking more and more as it seems that this may be a long term situation. Throw in a need for me to be mostly wheat free and our meals have really been changing. I was so happy to find a cupcake book with some great options!
*Can you tell which one is the gluten and dairy free cupcake?

Little baby wearing mommies
Miss J brought a scarf to me today and asked that I make her an "ergo" with it.
Minutes later Miss C brought me a scarf and asked me to do the same for her.

Toes-e-wosies
Miss C erupted in tears earlier today. She was hurt. As I picked her up I asked her what had happened.
"I hurt my toes-e-wosie!"
In order to inspect I asked which one was hurt.
"da wittle baby one"

Salt maps
The kids recently made salt map islands. Miss E had a good time making up the dough for us and all of the kids really enjoyed this project. After going over some geography deffinitions and talking about places they know with those atributes the older kids were sent off with a list of atributes to include on their islands.
I had a good time working with the little ones putting together an island. Mr. S did most of the work for us and proved that he had indeed been listening during the lesson!

What happened to the hamster?
Contrary to what the picture below may suggest, Mr. S's hamster did not meet his untimely death by meeting up with these viscious kittens. It seems the poor critter met with a natural end.
The cage was left out on the patio with the door open and the kittens seem to think it is a great play area.
